German Westerwald Salt-Glazed Crock
These kinds of pots are also called Keulse Pot or Cologne Pot since they were traded in Cologne. They are also known as Westerwald pots because they were produced in the Westerwald area in Germany from the 15th century to the present day. They are made of ceramic material with a layer of salt glaze. This colorless layer of glaze makes the pot waterproof to store and preserve food for the winter.
