Japanese Blue and White Hexagonal Jardiniere and Pedestal - Peacock and Peony
A fabulous Japanese jardiniere and pedestal from the Meiji Period (circa 1868-1912). The pot is tapered to the bottom with a bulbous hexagonal body and a wide mouth with a narrow lip. The pedestal has matched hexagonal shape with flared rim and bottom. Both the jar and pedestal are decorated with peacock, peony flower, and foliage paintings in a traditional white and blue palette. There is minor discolorization and surface wear to the pot and pedestal commensurate with age.
